Reviews

I just wanted to compliment the cast of DREAMGIRLS for a truly exciting performance. I was very impressed with many people in the cast.

All of the leads were super! Sean Butler as Curtis, Kevin Ford as Marty, Jared Grimble as CC and Christopher Roberts were the four male leads, and they were all excellent. Christopher Roberts was especially good, IMO. He gave a powerfully sung, fully committed, non-self conscious performance, as James Thunder Early. When you're playing a version of James Brown/Little Richard, you've got to "put it all out there" on stage, and Roberts did.

The women were equally great. Lindsey Grimble has a radiant personality onstage (a million dollar smile), and she was everything you need Deena to be (and a kinder version than I've seen portrayed in other productions...which I liked better). It was fun to see Lynexia Owens back on stage...she is such a wonderful performer and absolutely beautiful. Morgan Williams (as Lorrell) was phenomenal. If she is, in fact, only 14, I'm thrilled to think how talented she will be at 20. She more than held her own with older, more seasoned performers.

And Nattalyee Heather Randall did indeed bring the house down with "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going!" What a perfect example of the right performer with the right song. A thrilling moment!

The orchestra is incredible, and the singers sounded strong throughout the show.

Congrats to STC (and cast, staff, orchestra, and crew) for a great big hit!
WOW! Saw it Friday and Saturday and hope to see it again. Friday was almost sold out and Saturday WAS sold out. Both nights, nattalyee received standing ovations for And I'm Telling You. What an amazing group of talent.
Congrats to Dreamgirls for a wonderful opening night!

Also pleasing to hear was the number of people who were brand new to the stage in this production. I also watched the audience leave tonight, and it was so nice to see so many new faces in the crowd.
Morgan really IS 14, and yes, she has a voice and presence far beyond that.

What you could not tell about Lynexia's performance is that she has a severely sprained ankle and offstage is on crutches. She is a sweetheart, and a pleasure to be around. Hopefully she and others in this cast who either haven't been on our stages in the past or in the recent past will return again, and soon.
Terrific show. I was pleased to see the enthusiasm and the great reactions of the audience. The whole cast deserves kudos, but special congrats to Nattalyee for a standing ovation for her solo. I haven't seen that in a long time.
